When it comes to a deck no two are the same. It all comes down to what you are looking for when it comes to your deck. From railings and privacy screens, to skirting and stairs. The possibilities are endless and we can make your vision a reality.
There are a few options to consider when choosing decking.
1) Pressure treated:
Pressure treated is the standard option. It is lumber that has been treated to suit outdoor conditions. It provides a classic look with low maintenance while being the most budget friendly.
2) Cedar:
Cedar unlike pressure treated has no treatment so it's a natural and environmentally friendly option. With a natural resistance to rot and pests it is also a low maintenance option. Cedar falls into the mid range in cost.
3)Composite:
Composite is a blend of wood, plastic and additives. It comes in many different colours and textures to suit your taste. It is very durable with a long lifespan but comes at a premium cost.
Picture framing refers to a style of decking when you run a border around the perimeter of the deck. This is done to create a finished look and covers up the end grain of the decking, leaving cut ends out of sight. Inlays are patterns created within the decking to really make areas pop and stand out.
Skirting is how you finish the sides of a deck. It fills in the open space that is left. This not only provides an aesthetically pleasing finish but also prevents pests from making a home under your deck. There are a few ways we can do this and even make access doors so it is still possible to get underneath for storage.
When it comes to stairs you have options. The first is the choice between open or closed risers. Risers are the pieces that run vertically between the treads. Closed risers provide additional support by preventing sway and rocking of the stairs along with a complete finish. A cascading staircase goes down on multiple sides. Stairs can also be picture framed and skirted to match the rest of the deck.
The 3 main options there are for railings are
1) Aluminum:
Comes in black or white, with multiple options for style. They are strong, durable, low maintenance. Even have gates to block off a staircase. Aluminum is the most expensive option.
2)Wood framing/aluminum balusters:
Wood framing with the aluminum balusters is an elegant look to give the deck a bit of an accent. There are different styles to pick from and fall into the mid range for cost.
3) All wood railing:
All wood railings is a classic look that will never grow old. It provides excellent strength and security while also being the most budget friendly.
Privacy screens provide additional privacy while spending time on your deck. It can be a simple wall or an elegant beauty. Even mechanical louvres to open and close like shutters giving you the option to provide shade or let a sunny breeze through.
